Back in 2017, we saw the potential for AI to have an out-sized impact on the world, but wondered what use would be made of it for public benefit initiatives. Geoffrey and Matthew were both involved in providing free legal information at the time at Community Law Wellington, who decided to fund a pilot AI-powered chatbot to help with problems at school. Although Wagbot (as it was called) is having a rest now, the use case was proved sufficiently for the Michael and Suzanne Borrin Foundation to make legal information chatbots one of their inaugural projects for funding.
